What is BitTorrent?

BitTorrent is one of the most efficient peer-to-peer (P2P) file distribution protocol today. The protocol was originally designed and created by programmer Bram Cohen, and is now maintained by BitTorrent, Inc. BitTorrent employs a tit-for-tat algorithm to enforce fair trading. The protocol recommends to maintain a 1:1 ratio, i.e., to share atleast equal amount of what we download.
